De los ocho fallecidos en el atentado en Nueva York, 5 son argentinos que estaban de paseo en la ciudad. Sin embargo, hubo un argentino que sobrevivió al ataque, uno de ellos es Ariel Benvenuto, quien luego de ocurrido el ataque se contactó con su esposa, cuenta Crónica.
Cecilia Piedrabuena relató los momentos de terror que vivió su marido mientras caminaba por las calles de Manhattan. Contó que el grupo de argentinos caminaba en dos filas por la ciclovía, cuando de repente se vieron atacados por una furgoneta. Su marido no tuvo daños porque iba en la fila que no fue arrollada por el vehículo.
“Ariel salió ileso porque era el último de la fila de la izquierda, pero vio todo. La camioneta los sorprendió por detrás a toda velocidad, a 140 kilómetros por hora, y empezó a atropellar a todos”, contó la mujer.
Piedrabuena contó que su marido la llamó minutos después de ocurrido el ataque. “Me sonó el teléfono desde un número desconocido y atendí. Era Ariel que me llamaba desde el celular de un policía que se lo prestó y me dijo que la situación era muy grave pero que no me preocupara porque él estaba bien”, cerró la esposa del sobreviviente.
