Japón vivió uno de los peores terremotos que se han registrado en la historia. Su magnitud de 9,0° y su duración de alrededor de 6 minutos, tienen consecuencias que hoy se pueden apreciar.
Científicos estadounidenses han revelado en un estudio publicado en la revista “Science” que el terremoto ocurrido en marzo de 2011 en la región japonesa de Tohoku provocó una “extraordinaria” migración de especies marinas desde Japón hasta América del Norte, cuenta RT.
¿Qué ocurrió? Durante seis años más de 300 organismos, que van desde protozoos unicelulares hasta grandes colonias de mejillones y percebes, se detectaron en Hawái y en la costa de oeste de Norteamérica.
La gran cantidad de basura marina, entre neumáticos, vasos de poliestireno, botellas y plásticos, facilitaron que estos seres navegaran distancias mucho más largas, favoreciendo “la supervivencia transoceánica”, como le llaman los investigadores.
Ninguna de estas especies, afirman, “había sido reportada anteriormente transportándose transoceánicamente entre continentes”. Por el momento se desconoce si lograron establecerse y crear colonias a los lugares que llegaron.
