Esta semana el Presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, despidió al director del FBI, James Comey, en medio de las investigaciones que está llevando a cabo el Departamento de Justicia sobre los correos electrónicos de la candidata demócrata Hillary Clinton el año pasado y los supuestos vínculos de la campaña de Trump con el gobierno de Rusia.
Lo curioso y a la vez desagradable para Comey, es que se enteró a través de la televisión antes de que fuera informado por la Casa Blanca. El ahora ex director del FBI se encontraba realizando una charla frente a empleados del Buró Federal de Inteligencia cuando escuchó la noticia desde un televisor que se encontraba en la sala, según señala Infobae.
En un primer momento Comey no creyó lo que estaba escuchando. “Es una broma bastante divertida”, dijo. Luego uno de sus colaboradores le pidió que lo acompañara a una habitación cercana donde le confirmaron lo ocurrido.
A las horas recibió una fría carta de Trump donde le informaba que estaba despedido. “Estimado Director Comey. He recibido las cartas del Fiscal General y el Fiscal General Adjunto de los Estados Unidos recomendándome que lo releve como Director del Buró Federal de Investigaciones [FBI]. He aceptado sus recomendaciones y usted está por este medio despedido y removido del cargo, con efectos inmediatos”, señala el documento.
Según señala la BBC, el despido de Comey ha generado una “tormenta política” en Estados Unidos, ya que algunos se preguntan si esta destitución se debe realmente por las investigaciones que estaba llevando a cabo el FBI sobre presuntos nexos entre Trump y Rusia mientras era candidato a la presidencia.
“Mientras la Casa Blanca está siendo investigada por el FBI, la destitución de su cabeza plantea una gran cantidad de preguntas y el Senado debe llegar al fondo de ella”, dijo el senador demócrata Sheldon Whitehouse.
