El ministerio de Defensa de China informó el martes que probó un nuevo tipo de misil guiado al noroeste de la península coreana, horas después de conocerse los resultados en las elecciones presidenciales en Corea del Sur y en medio de fuertes tensiones regionales.
La prueba tuvo lugar en el Mar de Bohai, a unos 400 kilómetros del territorio norcoreano y a 500 de su vecino del sur, y se hizo para “aumentar la capacidad operacional de las Fuerzas Armadas y de responder efectivamente a las amenazas a la seguridad nacional” de China, señaló un comunicado del ministerio.
No se especificó qué tipo de misiles fue lanzado, pero la prueba coincide con las recientes pruebas de misiles balísticos de parte de Corea del Norte, el aumento de la presencia militar de los Estados Unidos con la llegada de un portaaviones a la región y la instalación de un escudo de misiles en Corea del Sur, y las elecciones en Seúl, donde se imponía un liberal que propone el diálogo con Pyongyang.
En tanto, la situación ocurrió en el también llamado Golfo de Bohai, una masa de agua que linda con la Bahía de Corea, dentro del Mar Amarillo, y que por su cercanía con Beijing es una de las zonas con más tráfico marítimo del mundo.
En esta misma zona, China ya había probado en abril misiles navales disparados desde destructores, y en febrero había informado del lanzamiento exitoso de un misil con capacidad nuclear.
