Las autoridades colombianas detuvieron al integrante de la guerrilla Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) Severo Saavedra Benavides, alias “Oscar Nobles”, acusado de participar en el secuestro del avión Fokker 50 de Avianca el 12 de abril de 1999.
Según los informes de Policía Judicial, Saavedra Benavides era el cabecilla del frente “Darío Jesús Ramírez Castro” del ELN, que opera en el sur del caribeño departamento de Bolívar.
El vuelo 9463 de Avianca cubría la ruta aérea entre Bucaramanga y Bogotá con 35 pasajeros y cinco tripulantes, además de los seis secuestradores que tomaron control de la aeronave cuando se encontraba en el aire.
Los secuestradores aterrizaron en una zona rural del sur de Bolívar y otro grupo de guerrilleros se llevó a los pasajeros y tripulantes.
De manera gradual y tras el pago de rescates fueron liberando a los secuestrados, si bien uno de ellos falleció durante el cautiverio.
Saavedra Benavides también está presuntamente vinculado al secuestro de los ingenieros de la empresa de ingeniería civil Gummings, así como a la de otros 3 trabajadores y un contratista de la empresa Dinacol, agregó la información.
Asimismo, es investigado por su participación en diferentes ataques contra las fuerzas militares y de Policía en el sur de Bolívar.
